Our Share the Plate Recipient for September is the Arizona Food Bank Network (AzFBN), known for its programs that bring fresh produce to food banks. AzFBN is a coalition of 5 regional food banks and almost 1,000 food pantries and agencies, all working to address hunger. AzFBN amplifies the work of their members by raising awareness about hunger, coordinating large food donations between food banks, and providing resources and education.
While AzFBN is not a food bank, it collaborates with food banks, government agencies, community organizations, schools, and others to create a hunger-free Arizona.
Two of the AzFBN programs that bring fresh produce to food banks are:
- The Friends of the Farm program brings fresh, Arizona-grown food (over 75 varieties!) to food banks throughout Arizona.
- The No Borders No Limits Produce Program brings produce grown in Mexico to food banks in Mexico and throughout the United States.”
