A picture of Reverend Christine at the pulpit during a service.

You all are so good at giving me additional resources and ideas after sermons you enjoy. In particular, I love when you give me poems (some of you can recite them by heart) that tie to the subject.

Last week’s sermon was about drawing our circle ever wider, but keeping it imperfect and always open to others. This is more relevant than ever as we continue to have more visitors come to UUCP seeking a refuge, a community and solace in these challenging times.

So here is a line from a poem that I’ve known for a long time, but totally forgot in the context of this service. It’s from the poem “Outwitted” by Edwin Markham

“He drew a circle that shut me out,
Heretic, rebel, a thing to flout.
But love and I had the wit to win,
We drew a circle and took him in!”

This week, may you find circles that include you.

May you draw your circle just a little bit wider.

May you embrace your perfectly imperfect selves.

And may you know that love always wins in the end.
