When times are hard, it can be helpful to look back at ancient texts for wisdom and strength.
In these sessions we’ll delve into some writings from the Hebrew Bible, what Jews call the Tanakh and Christians call the Old Testament.
- The first session will look at selections from the prophets, e.g. Isaiah, Ezekiel, and Amos, who spoke truth to power when rulers were oppressive. We will also explore the role and function of a prophet in the Hebrew Bible.
- The second session will see what the book of Job has to say about why bad things happen to good people and how to respond to that reality.
- The third session will examine Ecclesiastes, which speaks directly to the question of what gives meaning to life. Its surprisingly non-judgemental advice is to enjoy life as it comes.
These classes will be led by UUCP members Blake Rushing, who is seminary-trained and served as a minister for 10 years, and Gary Ezzell.
