  • New Year’s Day Potluck and Hike is Happening!

The annual UUCP potluck and hike are happening again this year. The hike meetup will be in the Phoenix Mountain Preserve 40th Street Parking Lot–at Shea and 40th Street, go south on 40th street into the parking lot. We will gather at 9:15 and leave promptly at 9:30 for the hike. The hike will be about 2 hours over rocky, uneven ground with some elevation involved. Please wear proper footwear, sunscreen, and a hat. Bring water and a trail snack always. This is a moderate hike for people used to hiking, perhaps difficult if you haven’t hiked in a while. Consider your own level of fitness always.

Following the hike we will gather at the home of Ed Cernek and Bonnie White for the potluck. Chicken tortilla soup and a vegan minestrone soup will be provided. Please bring a dish to share if you are able as well as your drink of choice.

You do not have to hike to come eat, you do not have to come eat to hike, but it is waaaay more fun if you do both! Please RSVP to the participation contact email for directions to the potluck.

    Captain’s Log: Stardate 298035.52 – Mission Debrief

Mission Report: Our journey to the Futuristic Fundraiser: Sci-Fi Edition was an interstellar triumph! The coordination, execution, and the remarkable participation from both the crew and guests have made this event a beacon of hope and unity across the UUCP galaxy.

    Commendations:

    • Commander and Crew of the UUCP Starship: Your exceptional planning and unwavering dedication ensured a stellar experience. You turned a night of uncertain fate into a constellation of memories filled with joy, laughter and solidarity.
    • Donors and Guests: The heart of the mission’s success lies in your generosity. Your contributions, whether through direct donations or auction purchases, fueled the engine of compassion and community support.

    Mission Highlights:

    • At the evening’s Live Auction close, an anonymous benefactor’s challenge match of $5,000 was met, and combined with all purchases, culminated in a grand total of $23,000+ raised. This will provide generous support to the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Phoenix, enabling us to continue our mission of community service and support.

Let it be known across the stars; this fundraiser stands as a testament to what we can achieve when we join forces for a common cause. May we continue to boldly go where no fundraiser has gone before. Live Long and Prosper. 🖖

  • Arts and Crafts Time at UUCP

Jay Alagia used to lead an art studio time at UUCP. Val Wylie was asked to revive that, and she found that we can use the Johnson room every Wednesday from 1-4 pm

So if you are interested in creating art, knitting, doing a puzzle, quilting, or making a quiet handcraft, please email  artsandcrafts@phoenixuu.org, just to let us know that you’re interested, by Tuesday, December 31. We hope to start meeting Wednesdays in 2025, probably starting January 8th. We will contact you directly and via Compass when plans are firm.
