UUCP’s service on Sunday, March 6, features funky guitarist Steven Himmelstein. Steve is a fixture of Arizona’s jazz and contemporary scene, playing with and recording for many local artists. Tony’s ability to play just about anything on piano and accordion—not just polkas, but jazz, rock, tangos, ballads, reggae, and more—have made him a busy musician, not just on Phoenix’s biggest musical stages, but also on television and in theater. This Sunday’s service will feature the Caribbean steelpan music of percussionist and educator Wes Hawkins. Wes leads the Rhythm is Life Steel Band and the Phoenix College percussion studio, and keeps busy performing and teaching percussion of all kinds. He’s excited to share his love of steelpan with us!
This Sunday, our music is all “homegrown”: members of our UUCP community leading favorite UU hymns. Carolyn Allenby, David Boecker-Grieme, and Sarah Montgomery will sing, with Masaru Sakuma on piano and Susan Morris on viola.
