For the month of April we will be focusing on the holiday “Earth Day”. Thanks everyone that joined us for our Monday April 11 meeting. Members learned about some of the dire environmental catastrophes that the United States were experiencing in the 1950’s and 60’s that lead to Earth Founder Gaylord Nelson (one time Governor of Wisconsin and U.S. Senator (1963-1981)) Calling for the first event on April 22, 1970.
We also discussed the relevancy to both learn from past and current Indigenous perspectives. A good resource for this is the Earth Day Through Indigenous Eyes article which focuses on a 1931 story from medicine man/holy man Black Elk. All of the other resources we discussed are also shared below.
Our next meeting will be Monday, April 25, at 6:00pm – please note the earlier time to accommodate our movie screening.

April 25th Film Screening
On April 25th we will be screening the film “Youth V Gov”. This film is about the process of 21 American youth, ages 14 to 25, who take the US government to court for violating their constitutional rights to life, liberty, personal safety, and property through their willful actions in creating the climate crisis they will inherit.
This event will be a part of the larger “Faith climate action week”. To learn more about the film, you can visit their webpage here: Youth v Gov
