I LOVE Stewardship Month. I know, I know, you may think that is weird, but t I love it for two different reasons:
- I think how we spend our money reflects our values and I think it is important to look at what we value.
- It’s the time to really drill down why UUCP is important to us personally.
I am charged each year to come up with a “rousing” sermon for the beginning of Pledge Season each year. I’ve been excited about this one since….probably November 6th, the day after the election. That’s because I don’t think there has ever been a more important time to be a Unitarian Universalist.
Unitarian Universalism is progressive religion. In a time when religion is mostly equated with conservative, judgemental, rule-based beliefs, Unitarian Universalism is inherently heretical, and Unitarian Universalism is progressive in our values and justice-based view of the world. When conservative politics and values are actively stripping away rights, diversity, inclusion and everything else we stand for, Unitarian Universalism is inherently part of the resistance.
I don’t know about you, but I’m pleased to be both a heretic and a part of the resistance.
I encourage you to submit your pledge in advance of Sunday’s pledge kickoff and come on Sunday to hear me rage about why I think Unitarian Universalism is so, so, SO critical in these times, and why it is worthy of our time and our treasures.
