In June, we are asking UUCP members and friends to Share the Plate with the Phoenix branch of The Bail Project. The Bail Project combats mass incarceration by disrupting the money bail system—one person at a time. The Project restores the presumption of innocence, reunites families, and challenges a system that criminalizes race and poverty. They are on a mission to end cash bail and create a more just, equitable, and humane pretrial system.
UUCP donations will go to the Bail Project’s revolving bail fund. People eligible for pretrial release, contingent on paying bail, are referred to The Bail Project’s Phoenix team, which determines via a detailed assessment whether a person will become a client. Clients are provided bail and other support services in the course of their case.
While volunteer opportunities with The Bail Project in Phoenix are not frequent, you may express your interest in volunteering on their website.
