Sign a petition and send a message to President Biden to use his powers under the Antiquities Act of 1906 to designate about a million acres of land around the Grand Canyon as the “Baaj Nwaavjo I’tah Kukveni Grand Canyon National Monument”.
The purpose is to protect native lands, plants, culturally important sites, and the waters (both surface and ground) from destruction by people and cattle and from contamination by uranium mining. People can learn more about this, and sign a petition in support of it, at keepitgrandaz.org.
This preservation act is sponsored by a coalition of many tribes native to AZ and surrounding areas who have cultural connections to the Grand Canyon. Several members of the Havasupai tribe, Stuart and Carlotta were recently featured on a podcast speaking about their conservation efforts.
